11. Subject (Subject.PersonalName)

Dublin Core Definition:

The topic of the content of the resource.

MARC:

11.1  Assign a personal name as a subject only when

  1. the name is in LCSH; or
  2. the person is historically and locally important based on your research and judgment; or
  3. there is a compelling reason to do it.
11.2  Verify the name in OCLC Name Authority. If not found,
  1. browse the Subject List in the database to see if the name has been created;
  2. check LCSH;
  3. check other local catalogs.
11.3  If an authority name is not found from the above sources, create the name heading according to AACR2 rules.
