| Description | Bird™s-eye view of a large city. Three churches face the green in the center of town. The buildings of Yale College are beyond. Commercial buildings and houses line the streets. Factories include the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., Sargent & Co. (hardware manufacturers), and L. Candee & Co. Rubber Works. In the foreground are the tracks of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, with passenger station, freight yard, and round house. Tracks lead to Long Wharf, the wharf on Canal Dock, and the Steamboat wharf. Sailing vessels and steamboats are in the harbor. The steep traprock cliffs of West Rock are in the left background, with the village of Westville at their foot. The West River is at the far left. The cliffs of East Rock are at the far right, with the Mill River flowing beneath them to meet the Quinnipiac River in the right foreground. The Airline Railroad leads off toward the upper right. |
