built
in
1835
at
Baltimore.
She was
wrecked
at
Cape
Verde
,
November
29
,
1909.
Captain
George
Comer
(1858-1937)
was a
sealer
and
whaling
captain
from
East
Haddam.
He
went
to
sea
while
still
in his
teens
and
served
on
board
a
number
of
vessels
out
of
New
London
,
Stonington
and
New
Bedford.
Comer
was
later
master
of
vessels
from
both
New
London
and
New
Bedford.
He
participated
in
voyages
involved
in
polar
expeditions
and was
noted
for his
studies
of
Arctic
peoples
and their
environment.
Comer
kept
a
journal
while
on the
1893
voyage
of the
Canton.
