DescriptionTwo women with parasols and a man are on the roof of a canal boat. Two additional men stand on the deck. One of them holds the tiller, which is attached to the rudder. An American flag flies from the stern. A pennant with a star flies from the bow. Additional passengers are visible through the windows of the boat. Three horses gallop along the bank. They are attached to the vessel by a towline. A man on the third horse brandishes a whip. A house and a church spire, which resembles the spire of the Farmington Congregational Church, are in the background.
