Co
. in
1864
.
Among
her
owners
were the
proprietors
of
Mystic
Iron
Works
. She was
chartered
by the
War
Department
in the
Civil
War
period
.
Ulysses
was
intended
to
run
between
southeastern
Connecticut
ports
and
Watch
Hill
,
Rhode
Island
. She was
stranded
in
Rockland
,
Maine
,
1878
.
Maxson
,
Fish
&
Co
. was
established
in
1853
by
William
Ellery
Maxson
and
Nathan
G
.
Fish
of
Mystic
,
together
with
other
partners
. The
yard
was
located
in
West
Mystic
. The
business
went
bankrupt
in
1870
,
soon
after
Fish's
death
.
Mystic
Iron
Works
,
1862-1873
,
manufactured
and
fitted
engines
and
boilers
for
vessels
. Its
boom
period
was
during
and
immediately
after
the
Civil
War
when
it
fitted
and
refitted
a
number
of
vessels
. The
company
also
built
one
vessel
, the
iron-hulled
screw
towboat
Montaines
. On
reverse
is
stamped

" in
green
ink
, and
written
in
blue
pencil
is
