Description	Port view of the oyster steamer Smith Bros. at dock in the ice. The pilot house eagle is clearly visible. The ice appears to be solid along the entire waterfront.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Handwritten on back: "Feb 21, 1912 in winter quarters at New Haven 18 inches of ice". The boat depicted may be the Smith Bros. vessel built by Lake Torpedo Co. of Bridgeport, said to be the largest oyster steamer built in Connecticut. Oystering was an important Connecticut industry in the 19th and 20th centuries. New Haven and South Norwalk were among the centers of local and regional cultivation and harvesting. The peak period was 1885-1910. Mounted on gray card with beveled edge, 5 3/8 x 6 3/8 in. The man second from the right is identified as Mose Price in one related photograph.
