Description	Stern view of training and rescue submaine S-4 submerging at its dock at the New London Submarine Base (located in Groton). The vessel is carrying a group of men practicing underwater escapes using the new "Momsen Lung." A rescue hatch is visble on the deck of the submarine. Six men, one in bathing suit, can be seen on the pier.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The "Momsen Lung" was a submarine escape breathing apparatus developed in the period 1929-1932 and named for one of its developers, then U.S. Navy Lieutenant Charles Bowers Momsen. S-4 was built 1918-19, accidentally sunk in 1927, raised and used as for training. She served in Key West in 1929-30, in New London 1931-32, and was decommissioned in 1933.
