sealer

whaling
captain
from
East
Haddam
. He
went
to
sea
while
still
in his
teens
and
served
on
board
a
number
of
vessels
out
of
New
London
,
Stonington
and
New
Bedford
.
Comer
was
later
master
of
vessels
from
both
New
London
and
New
Bedford
. He
participated
in
voyages
involved
in
polar
expeditions
and was
noted
for his
studies
of
Arctic
peoples
and their
environment
.
Comer
kept
a
journal
while
on the
1893
voyage
of the
Canton
.
