Description	Group of men wearing Continental army uniforms and hats with plumes march in ranks on street. Some men have drums. Most have swords or muskets. Men, women, boys and girls line both sides of the street. Commercial buildings have signs: "Aetna Bank" "Conklins / Bazaar" "Mens / Furnishing / Goods / H.W. Conklin" "Smith Brothers" "Bank of Hartford [County] Charter Oak" T.P & B.S. Saunders / Merchant Tailors" "Charles G. Geer" "Post Office." Some buildings have awnings. Lamp posts are on the sidewalk. Letterpress text beneath image: "The Putnam Phalanx, of Hartford, Connecticut - Photographed by Kellogg Bros., Hartford - See Page 383."<br>
Notes	Businesses occupy 254-272 Main Street. <br>The Putnam Phalanx, a military organization founded in Hartford in 1858, was named for Revolutionary War general Israel Putnam. The members wore Continental Army uniforms. <br>
