Description	Port bow view of the houseboat-type oyster steamer City Point tied up to a pier. The open deck oyster steamer J. Howard Lowndes, seen in stern view, lies alongside her to the right. In the right background is a vessel identified as possibly a sandbagger sloop. In the left background is a building that appears to be a house.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. City Point was built in Stratford, 1886. Her former name was the Mikado. City Point's home port was New Haven and her dimensions were 55.6 x 18.6 x 5.7 feet. J. Howard Lowndes was built in South Norwalk, 1886. Her dimensions were 75 x 18.9 x 6.5 feet. Location of the photograph is unknown. Oystering was an important Connecticut industry in the 19th and 20th centuries. New Haven and South Norwalk were among the centers of local and regional cultivation and harvesting. The peak period was 1885-1910. On back: "Overhauling the Oysteamers for the Fall trade."
