Description	Starboard view of the pilot schooner Telegram locked in by ice on the frozen Mystic River after launching from the Charles Mallory & Sons shipyard on Holmes Street, Mystic. George Mallory and an unidentified man can be seen at her bow. View is apparently looking upriver, with the west (Groton) shore visible in the background.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Telegram, launched December 1875, was the last vessel built by Charles Malloy & Sons. She was designed by Hector Darrach, and George Mallory was the master carpenter. She was owned by A. F. and C. Tift of Key West, Florida and served as a pilot boat for many years in southern waters. She stranded at Alvarado, Mexico in 1921. The Charles Mallory & Sons shipyard was located on the east (Stonington) bank of the Mystic River, approximately on the site of the present duPont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport. It produced a number of sail and steam vessels from 1851 to 1875, with the Civil War period the most active. Photograph attributed to Everett A. Scholfield, a professional photographer who worked primarily in Mystic and New London from 1865-1913.
