Near
identical

this

of the
ship
Twilight
,
taken
in
early
spring
,
1867
. These and
related
images
and
information
related
to the
Twilight
indicate
that the
1868

alternate
identification
as
Annie

Smull
are
questionable
. If
Twilight
,
vessel
is
variously
described

Twilight
II

Twilight
III
. She
is
identified
as the
second
sailing
ship
of that
name
built
by
Charles
Mallory

Sons
of
Mystic
. The
first
was a
clipper
ship

actual

third
Mallory
vessel
named
Twilight
,
depicted
here, was
launched
in
1866
and
wintered
in the
Mystic
River
before
being
rigged
. This
Twilight
had a
career
in the
California
trade
, was
under
foreign
ownership
by
1885
, and
shortly
thereafter
condemned
. The
Charles
Mallory

shipyard
was
located
on the
east
(Stonington)
bank
of the
Mystic
River
,
approximately
on the
site
of the
present
duPont
Preservation
Shipyard
at
Mystic
Seaport
.
It
produced
a
number
of
sail
and
steam
vessels
from
1851
to
1875
, with the
Civil
War
period
the

active
