. She and her
sister
ship
Quinnebaug
were
lost
off
Cape
Hatteras
,
possibly
in a
collision
,
during
the
Charles
E
.
Wilbur's
maiden
voyage
. She was
carrying
a
cargo
of
hard
pine
back
to
Mystic
from
Georgia
.
Shipbuilder
Michael
B
.
McDonald
had
worked
in
Madison
,
New
London
and
Noank
before
launching
M.B
.
McDonald
&
Sons
on
Pistol
Point
in
Mystic
,
which
he
operated
from
1903
to
1905
. The
firm
built
ten
coasting
schooners
and a
barge
in this
time
period
before
going
into
bankruptcy
in
1905
. The
losses
of
two
McDonald-built
vessels
not
long
after
their
launchings
may
have
played
a
part
in the
company's
financial
troubles
.
