Description	Crowds assembled for the Annual Peace Meeting, held on grounds between High Street and River Road in Mystic. Carriages and pedestrians, both men and women, can be seen. To the right, painting on an umbrella reads:"H&P&W 5 Cigar". View is toward the north, with the Mystic River and Groton and Stonington side riverfronts visible, including part of Elm Grove cemetery in the right background. Handwritten on back: "At 'Peace Meeting' Aug 1894".
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Peace Meeting was held at the Peace Sanctuary in Burrows Grove, in the Great Hill area between High Street and River Road on the west (Groton) side of the Mystic River. The Greenman brothers were supporters of these meetings, held in the post-Civil War period to the 1890's. They closed their business and gave their workers a paid holiday to attend the meeting each year. Taken by Edward H. Newbury, a Mystic businessman and amateur photographer. Mounted on white card, round corners.
