Description	Port stern view of the steam passenger ferry Uncas under way, headed toward the Groton shore. A railroad ferry is visible in the right background. The Groton Monument can be seen in the left background.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Uncas was built by Hill & Grinnell, Mystic, 1872. She was a passenger ferry running between New London and Groton until 1878, when she underwent repair by Robert Palmer & Sons of Noank and was renamed Oneco. Hill & Grinnell, a partnership of Mason Crary Hill and Amos Grinnell, was in business from 1860-1874. The firm's Pistol Point shipbuilding yard was active from 1864-1874. Taken by Everett A. Scholfield, a professional photographer who worked primarily in Mystic and New London from 1865-1913.
