Description	View of shipyard identified as the Palmer Yard, with a completed but unidentified four-masted schooner visible in the right background, and a wooden vessel in progress on the left. Timber and lumber can be seen in the foreground. Printed in ball-point pen at top: "Palmer Yard, Noank circa 1900".
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. On reverse in pencil: "When Dan Palmer was running it/ P. J. Butten/Taken about 1900/ Showing vast amount of heavy/ timber usually kept in yards during/ wooden shipbuilding period." The Palmer family's shipbuilding and repair facility, in operation from the mid-19th century until 1914, was one of the most prominent on the east coast. It was incorporated under several names and experienced substantial growth in the second half of the 19th century, specializing in the production of utilitarian barges and floats. The yard employed 400 men on average in the first decade of the 20th century. Print faded, stained. Mounted on heavy cardboard.
