Description	Starboard view of the sidewheel steamer City of New London at wharf, Norwich. Commercial buildings can be seen along the waterfront.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Printed at left "Views of Norwich and Vicinity." and at right "J. WEEKES, Photographer, 103 Main St. [Norwich?]" City of New London was built in Greenport, New York, 1863 by John Inglis & Son. She was part of the coordinated rail-steamer transportation system that provided passenger and freight service from New York to New England cities. City of New London and her sister vessel, City of Norwich, primarily carried freight for the Norwich and New York Transportation Company. She was wrecked November 22 or 23, 1871. She was on her way from Norwich and fog-bound off Montville. It was believed that a cook laid a red hot poker on woodwork. The fire started in the galley and spread to cotton bales on board. Seventeen people died. Pictures 3 x 3 in. mounted on yellow card, rounded corners.
