Description	Studio portrait of a man identified as James Francis Smith of New London, captain of the steamers Old Glory and Manhanset, as well as other vessels. He has a white mustache and is wearing his New London Jibboom Club No. 1 uniform and cap.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Manhanset was a New-London based excursion boat built by Mason Crary Hill of Mystic in 1879. The Jibboom Club was a social organization for seamen founded by whaling captains in the 1870s, reorganized in 1891 and dissolved in 1959. Taken by E.A. Scholfield, a professional photographer who worked primarily in Mystic and New London from 1865-1913.
