. The
two-story
clapboarded
house
features
a
cupola
with
windows
framed
by
shutters
, a
porch
,
bow
window
and
wing
. The
cornice
is
decorated
with
dentils
and there
is
an
ornamental
balustrade
along
the
roof
.

. The
house
was
built
in
1844
by
Charles
Henry
Mallory
with
profits
from
whaling
and was
later
enlarged
and
remodeled
with
money
made
in
shipping
and
shipbuilding
by the
Mallory
family
firm
.
It
was
used
mostly
as a
summer
house
for the
New
York-based
Mallory
after
1870
.
It
was
later
a
boarding
house
,
referred
to as
Lamphere
House
, and was
torn
down
in the
early
twentieth
century
to be
replaced
by an
auto
service
station
. A
Bess
Eaton
doughnut
shop
now
occupies
the
site
.

was the
son
of
Charles
Mallory
,
founder
of the
family's
sail
making
and
other
maritime
enterprises
.
