Description	Three-story building with a central pavilion. Ionic pilasters are at the corners of the pavilion and of the building. Lunettes are in the gables. Smoke issues from one of several chimneys. Louvered shutters are at the windows. An iron fence surrounds the lawn. Inscribed in plate beneath image: "View of the Asylum for Deaf and Dumb Persons, Hartford, Con."<br>
Notes	The American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, established in 1817 by Thomas H. Gallaudet, was the first institution in America devoted to the handicapped. <br>
