holds
the
barrel
of the
rifle
with
both
hands

Carved
on the
base
below
are a
wreath
, then the
word

ANTIETAM
" a
state
seal
, and an
inscription
that
reads
: "
DEDICATED
TO
THE
BRAVE
SONS
OF/
MYSTIC
WHO
OFFERED
THEIR
LIVES
FOR
THEIR/
COUNTRY,/
IN
THE
WAR
OF
THE
REBELLION./
1861

iron
fence
encircles
the
monument
