Description	Several vessels docked along a waterfront, probably in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Railroad tracks and a platform are in the foreground. Starboard view of the screw steamer Cygnet at dock. The sidewheel steamer Monohansett can be seen in port view at the center. Partially hidden from view behind the Monohansett is the steamer Martha's Vineyard. Three unidentified three-masted schooners are docked in the background.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The Cygnet was built by the Palmer shipyard in 1876. She ran on the New Bedford-Cuttyhunk line for a number of years. She was destroyed by fire at Sunnyside, New Jersey, December 20, 1917. The Monohansett and Martha's Vineyard ran between New Bedford and the islands. The Palmer family's shipbuilding and repair facility, in operation from the mid-19th century until 1914, was one of the most prominent on the east coast. It was incorporated under several names, including R. & J. Palmer and Robert Palmer & Son Shipbuilding and Marine Railway, and experienced substantial growth in the second half of the 19th century, specializing in the production of utilitarian barges and floats.
