for
Henry

.
Manwaring
, was
originally
a
yacht
,
later
an
oyster
sloop
.
D.O
.
Richmond
was
considered
one
of
Mystic's
finest
boatbuilders
, and had a
close
working
relationship
with
Charles
Henry
Mallory
. His
first
yard
was on
Holmes
Street
on the
east
side
of the
river
; his
second
(late
1860's-1908)
on the
west
,
below
the
bridge
.
City
of
Lawrence
(built
1867
,
Wilmington
,
Delaware)
was
one
of the
steamers
that
plied
Long
Island
Sound
,
linking
New
York
and
New
England
cities
through
coordinated
water
and
rail
transport
. She was
part
of the
Norwich
&
New
York
Transportation
Company
fleet
. The
vessels
are
probably
shown
in
New
Bedford
Harbor
during
a
Veteran
Firemen's
Convention
,
August
19
1896
, for
which
effigies
were
hung
from the
George
and
Mary's
rigging
and the
vessel
burned
.
