established
in
1849
by
George
Greenman
&
Company
,
noted
Mystic
shipbuilders
. The
company
was
owned
in
whole
or
part
by the
Greenman
brothers
,
George
,
Clark
and
Thomas
. The
firm
produced
woolen
and
other
textiles
. The
Greenman's
shipyard
and
mill
were
located
on the
Stonington
side
of the
Mystic
River
in an
area
that
came
to be
known
as
Greenmanville
. The
brick
gambrel-roofed
building
is
now
the
Stillman
Building
, a
principal
exhibit
space
at
Mystic
Seaport
.
