by
Forsyth
shows
the
position
of the
decks
and
other
interior
structural
features
of a
vessel
that was to have been
built
by
Mason
Crary
Hill
to
carry
grain
.
John
Forsyth
,
son
of
Captain
Peter
Forsyth
of
Mystic
,
designed
and
modeled
vessels
for a
number
of
yards
in
Mystic
in
New
London
and also
owned
a
grocery
and
provision
store
in
Mystic
. He
later
worked
for the
Thames
Tow
Boat
Company
of
East
New
London
,
where
he
oversaw
construction
of
many
of their
vessels
. He also
worked
on
contracts
in
other
states
in the
latter
part
of his
career
.

was the

for the
area
of
Mystic
village
on the
Groton
side
of the
Mystic
River
. This
area
had
formerly
been
known
as
Portersville
.
