1866
.
Built
as a
bark
and
later
re-rigged
as a
ship
, she was in
merchant
service
under
a
series
of
owners
until
she
stranded
and
caught
fire
near
Kobe
,
Japan
in
1878
.
After
repair
, she
served
as a
schoolship
for the
Japanese
Navy
and was
later
returned
to
merchant
service
.
Condemned
and
broken
up
in
1912
.
George
Greenman
and
Company
was a
family
firm
owned
by
three
ot
the
Greenman
Brothers
,
George
,
Clark
and
Thomas
. They
built
97
vessels
between
1837
and
1878
. The
shipyard
was
located
at
Adams
Point
in the
Greenmanville
section
of
Mystic
, a
site
that
is
now
part
of
Mystic
Seaport
.
