successful
ships
launched
from an
American
shipyard

David
Crockett
had a
long
and
profitable
career
as a
clipper
,
doing
the
New
York-San
Francisco
run
for
most
of the
period
1857-1883
. She was
converted
to a
bark
, and,
after
1890
, to a
coal
barge
.
Stranded
on
Romer
Shoal
in
New
York
Bay
in
February
1899
.
George
Greenman
and
Company
was a
family
firm
owned
by
three
ot
the
Greenman
Brothers
,
George
,
Clark
and
Thomas
. They
built
97
vessels
between
1837
and
1878
. The
shipyard
was
located
at
Adams
Point
in the
Greenmanville
section
of
Mystic
, a
site
that
is
now
part
of
Mystic
Seaport
.
