now

floating
exhibit

Originally
a
Danish
training
ship
named
the
Georg
Stage
, the
Joseph
Conrad
was
built
in
Copenhagen
,
Denmark
,
1882
.
Alan
Villiers
bought
her
(1934)
and
renamed
her the
Joseph
Conrad
. She was
later
owned
by
G
.
Huntington
Hartford
, and
during
the
World
War
II
period
, by the
U.S
.
Maritime
Commission
,
which
donated
her to
Mystic
Seaport
in
1947
.
