Description	Spectators, many of them holding umbrellas, crowd both sides of Main Street. Rain is falling. Ranks of men in military uniforms, including a band with musical instruments, march in front of a hearse drawn by four horses. Horses and hearse are decorated with plumes. A casket is in the hearse. Men in top hats walk beside it. Commercial buildings in the background include one with a sign: "Geer & Pond." The building has striped awnings and is decorated with an American flag and a sign that reads: "Best / Friend / Farewell." Letterpress text beneath image: "Funeral of the Late Thomas H. Seymour, at Hartford, Conn., Sept. 7th. - From a Sketch by Henry C. Curtis." Inscribed in graphite, lower left: "Sketched & Published - 1872."<br>
Notes	The news office of Geer & Pond was located at 256 Main Street. <br>Wood-engraving from an illustrated magazine. <br>Thomas Hart Seymour, born in Hartford in 1833, served in the Mexican War, was Governor of Connecticut from 1850-1853 and subsequently served as minister to Russia. He died in 1868. <br>
