. The
cluster
of
buildings
includes
a
large
brick
gambrel-roofed
structure
not
clearly
visible
to the
far
left
as
well
as
other
brick
and
wood
structures
on the
banks
of the
Mystic
River
. The
back
yards
of
several
houses
,
including
what
appear
to be
Greenman
family
houses
,
can
be
seen
in the
center
and
right
background
.

occupied
the
site
of
earlier
textile
enterprises
,
including
a
mill
(Greenmanville
Manufacturing
Co.)
owned
by
George
Greenman
&
Company
.
Renamed
in
1897
,
Mystic
Manufacturing
Company
produced
worsted
wool
,
specializing
in
military
uniform
cloth
during
the
World
War
I
period
. The
brick
buildings
have
survived
and
include
a
gambrel-roofed
structure
,
now
called
the
Stillman
Building
;
all
are
presently
part
of
Mystic
Seaport
. The
area
along
the
Mystic
River
on the
Stonington
side
north
of
downtown
Mystic
was
known
as
Greenmanville
.
Three
of the
Greenman
brothers
,
including
middle
brother
Clark
,
lived
and had their
shipyard
and
mill
in this
area
in the
nineteenth
century
. Their
houses
are on the
west
side
of
Greenmanville
Avenue
, and are
now
part
of
Mystic
Seaport
.
