Description	View looking north up the Mystic River from the Holmes Coal Company wharf, off Holmes Street just north of the Mystic River Bridge. The schooner General Wm. H. French and tug Dr. S. N. Briggs can be seen in the foreground. Coal is being unloaded from the schooner and the Briggs is pushing canal barges. Gravel Street is visible on the left and in the center and right background, Adams Point, Greenmanville and the Seventh Day Baptist Church can be seen.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Gen. Wm. H. French was built 1864, Bridgeton, NJ (dimensions: 61.8 x 23.6 x 5 feet); she was owned in Stonington by Joseph Hancock in the 1890's. The Dr. S. N. Briggs was built 1869, Philadelphia (dimensions 57 x 14.5 x 5.8 feet); her home port in 1898 was New London. She was owned by the Thames Tow Boat Company of New London at the time this picture was taken. Coal predominated as a fuel for cooking and heating in the second half of the nineteenth century in Mystic. Edward H. Newbury was a Mystic businessman and amateur photographer. Mounted on gray card, round corners.
