Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. The Long Wharf project area comprised the waterfront along the mouth of the Mill and Quinnipiac Rivers and New Haven harbor. Marshy areas were filled in to accommodate the Connecticut Turnpike (Interstate 95) and new industrial and commercial sites. Several long-time industries housed in older buildings near the waterfront or elsewhere in the city were relocated to new facilities in the Long Wharf area. The Armstrong Rubber Company headquarters was moved from West Haven to the redeveloped Long Wharf area. The building was designed by noted architect Marcel Breuer.
