Hector
Darrach
(1838-1916)
was a
ship
and
boat
builder
in
Mystic
. He
worked
as a
ship
carpenter
for the
George
Greenman
&
Co
. and
later
under
subcontract
or
lease
for
David
O
.
Richmond
,
often
with
other
boat/shipbuilders
.
Formerly
a
single
story
house
,
possibly
one
of the
oldest
in
Mystic
, the
Langworthy-Allyn
House
underwent
many
modifications
over
time
,
including
the
raising
of the
first
floor
and
construction
of a
new
one
during
the
nineteenth
century
.
It
was
owned
briefly
by the
Greenman
family
, and
later
by
David
O
.
Langworthy
and his
wife
Fanny
(Fannie?)
. They
operated
it
as a
boarding
house
for
mill
and
shipyard
workers
during
the
second
half
of the
nineteenth
century
.
Hector
Darrach
was a
boarder
there in the
1870's
and
eventually
married
the
Langworthy's
daughter
Sarah
F
.
Langworthy
. From
1931-1974
the
house
was
owned
by the
Allyn
family
. The
Langworthy/Allyn
house
is
currently
part
of
Mystic
Seaport
.
Secondary
sources
indicate
the
circa
1885
date
, but the
clothing
suggests
a
somewhat
later
period
.
