Description	View of building or buildings identified as New Haven cold storage, New Haven, before redevelopment. "Besse Richey/Jones Morgan" can be seen on the street at center. To the left is a two-story building with signs advertising fountain supplies, paper goods and tobacco products. A building partially visible behind the truck has signs for Kahn Bros. Wholesale Meats. Cars can be seen along the street and next to the buildings.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. As part of redevelopment many food-related businesses were relocated from their old addresses to the new Food Terminal in the Long Wharf redevelopment project area. This project area comprised the waterfront along the mouth of the Mill and Quinnipiac Rivers and New Haven harbor. Marshy areas were filled in to accommodate the Connecticut Turnpike (Interstate 95) and new industrial and commercial sites. The location of the Food Terminal provided for easy access to the highways and eased traffic flow in downtown areas.
