Description	View of the old location of D & V Beef Co., before the development of the New Haven Food Terminal in the Long Wharf Project area, New Haven. A sign above the first floor reads "D and V BEEF CO." and "formerly/Wienhusen[?]". A neon sign just below advertises beef, pork, lamb and provisions. The number 140 can be seen over a doorway at the right side of the building. A truck can be seen in front of the building to the left. Letter on the truck reads: "708 CONGRESS AVE./NEW HAVEN, CONN." "Hummel Bros./Quality/FRANKFORTS & BOLOGNAS" -
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. Other photographs of D & V Beef Co. identify the old location as State Street in the Church Street project area. As part of redevelopment many food-related businesses were relocated from their old addresses to the new Food Terminal in the Long Wharf redevelopment project area. This project area comprised the waterfront along the mouth of the Mill and Quinnipiac Rivers and New Haven harbor. Marshy areas were filled in to accommodate the Connecticut Turnpike (Interstate 95) and new industrial and commercial sites. The location of the Food Terminal provided for easy access to the highways and eased traffic flow in downtown areas.
