Description	Half model of the ship Frolic.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. The model may have been carved by either Thomas Stillman Greenman or Frank Champlin. It is composed of seventeen "lifts" of alternating pine and mahogany. Shipbuilders used such models to construct molds to shape the frames of vessels. Frolic was built for John A. McGaw of New York by George Greenman & Company and launched on July 5, 1869, the last square-rigged vessel built by the Greenman firm. She was advertised as a "Mystic built extreme clipper" designed for the California trade. In 1880 she was sold to German owners for $31,200 and renamed Elise. She was broken up at Genoa, Italy in 1907. Date provided is for the half model. The photograph dates sometime after acquisition of the model in 1938.
