Description	View of a brick garage on Special Reuse Parcel S-3, the future site of Ethan Gardens apartments, Orchard Street, Dwight project area, New Haven. The bays and windows are boarded up.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. The Dwight Street redevelopment area was comprised of the residential neighborhood bounded by Whalley and Legion Avenues. Redevelopment efforts in this project area focused on new or rehabilitated housing and schools. Many older buildings, such as the garage depicted in this photograph, were demolished to make way for new development, in this case, Ethan Gardens housing. Information on the Department of Housing and Urban Development site identifies Ethan Gardens as cooperative housing.
