Description	View of a room in a house at 96 Foote Street, Dixwell Project area, before redevelopment, New Haven. View appears to be of a bedroom, with two beds partially visible. One of the beds has no mattress. A man's jacket hangs above one of the beds at top left. The room appears to be in very poor condition, with damaged wallpaper peeling off the walls and lathe visible in some sections.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger Dated July 1956. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. Much of the area involved in the Dixwell Project had been characterized by a mix of residences, small stores and businesses. As part of redevelopment, older buildings were demolished to make way for modern structures and centralized shopping plazas. Redevelopment extended beyond Dixwell Avenue proper to surrounding and adjacent areas.
