Description	View of buildings on Ashmun Street near the intersection with Ashmun, AK Block, Dixwell Project area, New Haven. A traffic light can be seen above the intersection. A three-story wood building faces Ashmun at the corner. A sign on the Webster Street side of the building advertises Canada House whiskey. A structure that appears to have been added to the Ashmun Street side of the building houses storefronts. To the left is Baldino's Market. The market sign projects over the street and advertises Coca Cola. Signs in the window advertise Camels and Montclair cigarettes and what appears to be a James Brown concert.. To the right of Baldino's is a store with the name "ELM HAVEN" visible in the window. Another sign advertises shoe shines. Houses can be seen farther down the street.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. Much of the area involved in the Dixwell Project had been characterized by a mix of residences, small stores and businesses. As part of redevelopment, older buildings were demolished to make way for modern structures and centralized shopping plazas. Redevelopment extended beyond Dixwell Avenue proper to surrounding and adjacent areas. Information on rear of photograph identifies site as Parcel 6.
