Description	View of a two-story commercial building on the north side of Chapel Street between Day and Gill Streets, Dwight project area, New Haven. A business advertising Haydonized auto painting occupies the building. A car is parked in front. A sign above a display window at the right side of the building advertises one-day service for any car, any color at $39.95, with a three-year guarantee. A sign over a service bay partially visible to the right advertises free estimates on fenders and also body repair work. The Themper company occupies an adjacent building to the left of the auto painting business.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Dated August 1962. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. The Dwight Street redevelopment area was comprised of the residential neighborhood bounded by Whalley and Legion Avenues. Redevelopment efforts in this project area focused on new housing and schools.
