Description	View of storefronts at 421, 423, 425 and 427 State Street, State Street project area, New Haven. Businesses include the Enterprise Store, advertising hardware, plumbing, paint and electrical fixtures and supplies; Silberg and Brochin; and Triestino liquor store, advertising wines and liquors. Street signs mark the intersection of Court and State Streets at far right. Signs in the storefront of a one-story building at far left advertise a redevelopment removal sale. A car and truck can be seen on the street.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Dated August 14, 1967. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. The State Street project targeted the commercial thoroughfare extending from Water Street to the Hamden town line. The downtown section was a shopping district with a variety of stores; the east side of the street backing on the railroad cut. Redevelopment involved removing a number of older structures to widen State Street, as well as reconfigured roadways and new buildings.
