Description	View of men, trucks and produce in an area identified as the old location, before the development of the New Haven Food Terminal in the Long Wharf Project area, New Haven. Vegetables can be seen in the backs of trucks and in baskets and boxes on the ground.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. Possibly depicts the old market area at the corner of Hill and Silver Streets, which was part of the Church Street South project area. A 1950 city directory map shows Hill Street extending from Silver Street to Congress Avenue, east of Lafayette. Both Hill and Silver no longer exist. As part of redevelopment many food-related businesses were relocated from their old addresses to the new Food Terminal in the Long Wharf redevelopment project area. This project area comprised the waterfront along the mouth of the Mill and Quinnipiac Rivers and New Haven harbor. Marshy areas were filled in to accommodate the Connecticut Turnpike (Interstate 95) and new industrial and commercial sites. The location of the Food Terminal provided for easy access to the highways and eased traffic flow in downtown areas.
