Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Dated March 1966. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. The old Sperry & Barnes plant was an antiquated complex in the Long Wharf area. It was targeted as part of the Long Wharf redevelopment project area, which comprised the waterfront along the mouth of the Mill and Quinnipiac Rivers and New Haven harbor. Marshy areas were filled in to accommodate the Connecticut Turnpike (Interstate 95) and new industrial and commercial sites. One result was a new Food Terminal, which centralized food distribution and provided easy access to the highways.
