Description	View of a two-story industrial building identified as the old United Smelting & Aluminum Co., Temple-George Project area, New Haven. A sign with the company name can be seen above the first floor. The spire of the United Illuminating headquarters building is visible in the left background. The Temple Street Garage can be seen to the right, with the First New Haven National Bank building partially visible in the background. View is identified as facing the Oak Street Connector.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Dated February 1966. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. Oak Street and the neighborhood it defined disappeared as part of redevelopment, making way for the Oak Street Connector (Route 34) and new structures Another view of what appears to be the east side of the building identifies it as on Temple Street.
