Description	View of a site identified as Parcel A-10, Russo Park, Wooster Square project area, New Haven, before redevelopment. A lot with a number of cars can be seen in the foreground. A sign reading "A-1 GARAGE/USED/CARS" is visible at the street side of the lot. The backs of apartment buildings or townhouses can be seen on the other side of the lot. Other buildings that appear to be houses are visible around what appears to be a park in the left background.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. Dated March 1962. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities. The Wooster Square project targeted an old New Haven neighborhood with many lovely nineteenth-century houses as well as multi-family dwellings and industrial buildings. The construction of Interstates 95 and 91 and redevelopment initiatives swallowed up a number of buildings. Many others were refurbished as part of an effort to preserve the architectural heritage and character of the neighborhood. Another image identified as of the Russo Park site and that appears to depict the same car lot identifies the location as Wooster Street just east of Brewery. Russo Park appears on current maps on the east side of Wooster Street between Brewery and Chapel Streets.
