Description	Three men, two of them in military uniforms, in an interior. One man wears a hat and holds a sword. Two men wear powdered wigs. They stand on a rug beside a desk and a chair. An inkwell and quill pens are on the desk. Books are on shelves.<br>
Notes	Silas Deane was born in Groton, attended Yale College in New Haven, and practiced law in Wethersfield. He was a delegate from Connecticut to the First and Second Continental Congresses. In March 1776 he was selected to go to France as the first representative of the United Colonies to a foreign power. He recruited several European military officers to the American cause, including DeKalb and Lafayette. <br>
