Description	Studio portrait of Mystic shipbuilder Mason Crary Hill. Signed on mat lower right: "Geo. E. Tingley 1904".
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger. On mat, 11 x 8 in. Mystic native Mason Crary Hill was noted for his innovative approach to vessel design, and is credited with developing the half-clipper. He worked for Charles Mallory & Sons as a designer and master carpenter. The clipper ship Twilight (launched 1857) was among his projects. Taken by George E. Tingley, a noted Mystic area photographer. In his early career, he was an assistant and later sometime partner of Everett A. Scholfield. After 1894 he worked independently.
