Description	Bird's-eye view of Higganum, a section of Haddam. The Connecticut River is in the foreground with steamboats and sailing vessels. The Hartford and Connecticut Valley Railroad runs parallel to the river. It passes through a covered bridge over the Higganum River and then by Chase, Reed & Co., Manufacturers of Builders Hardware. Higganum Manufacturing Corporation, Manufactures of Agricultural Implements is a complex of factories and industrial buildings, on the Middletown Brook. Other industrial buildings include the factories of Stevens, Hotchkiss, & Hubbard, Manufacturers of Chandeliers, Lamp Fixtures, Etc -- Russell & Co., Manufacturers of Cotton Yarn, Webbing, Etc -- and D. & H. Scovil, Manufacturers of Scovil's Improver Planter's Hoe. Businesses include L.C. & E.D. Barry, General Merchandise -- A.H. Gladwin, General Merchandise Store -- N. Fuller, Dry & Fancy Goods -- A.E. Hull General Merchandise -- Brainard, Cody, & Co., Market & Provisions -- the Post Office of E.D. Gilbert, P.M. -- the Higganum Savings Bank -- the Higganum Hotel. There are two churches, the Congregational Church and the Methodist Church. The public schools are located on Main Street. Hills flank the town and are in the background.
