Description	Bird's-eye view of New Haven from Ferry Hill. Ferry Hill and its surrounding vegetation is prominent in the foreground. The side of the Quinnipiac River that appears closest to the viewer is considerably more rural than the far side. Fenced-in fields and a farm are visible. A horse-drawn carriage passes by a pasture where cows are grazing. Men are harvesting hay and loading it onto a wagon on the right. Below them are sheep in a pasture. On the right side is East Rock and sailing vessels moving into a cove. Industrial buildings line the riverside, many of which have smoke or steam issuing from their smokestacks. A covered bridge extends across the river in the middle, where horse-drawn carriages are crossing. The New Haven & Northern Railroad is leaving the depot on a wharf that is connected by the aforementioned bridge. A train is visible off the left, which is probably the same railroad line. Long Wharf extends into the water on the left side. Several sailing vessels are on the water, as well as one steamboat named the Connecticut. Several churches are visible in the skyline.
