Description	View of the Downtown Shopping Triangle, New Haven. A sign on the gable end of a one-story building reads: "DOWNTOWN/SHOPPING TRIANGLE". Signs underneath appear to list the businesses occupying the site. They advertise United Liquor Shop, Arnold's Boot Shops, Norge Grille, Snyder's Men's Store, Triangle Restaurant (formerly Allen's Fountain), Treadow Bros., Marshall's Men's Clothes, Howard Shoes, News Depot. Large commercial buildings are visible in the background. A sign on the buiding to the right reads in part "Loew's POLI/COLLEGE/BIJOU". A chain link fence and heavy equipment, possibly construction equipment, can be seen in an empty lot in the foreground.
Notes	Title supplied by cataloger Another view of the same site includes street signs indicating that the location is near the intersection of Congress Avenue and Meadow Street. These streets once intersected with each other at George and Church Streets, according to a 1950 city directory map. The Downtown Shopping Triangle appears to have occuped a triangular lot between Meadow and George Streets. One of a collection of photographs taken by the New Haven Redevelopment Agency to document a massive urban planning and development project undertaken from 1956 through the mid-1970s. The federally-financed redevelopment initiative was realized through a series of projects focused on particular New Haven city neighborhoods identified by street or area names. These projects involved the demolition of old structures and construction of new buildings, roadways and other facilities.
